Teacher Working Conditions Affect Student Performance

Members Lets wish Teachers
A Happy Teachers day in India since it is an official holiday in this country! In a report from the National Academy of Education, the researchers found that, “All else being equal, the teacher turnover rate is higher in schools with lower salaries and poorer working conditions.”
The researchers also write that teacher retention is a huge concern for schools because teachers with experience are better teachers. They write that quality teaching isn’t just about a teacher’s knowledge base or teaching techniques: it’s also abo• Teacher feels that his/her salary is fair for the work done.
• Teacher has enough time for planning and grading.
• School does not have problems with threats to teachers or staff by students.
• School does not have problems with disorderly student behavior.
• Teacher is treated as a professional by community.
• Teacher has adequate involvement in team building and problem-solving.
• Teacher has adequate ability to influence policies that affect him/her.
• Teacher has adequate time for classroom instruction.
What does this mean for us in the classroom? Just as students need a nurturing environment where they have a voice, feel safe, and have respect, so too, do teachers.
Often we talk about what’s best for students without regard to what’s best for teachers. These two goals aren’t mutually exclusive. Benefiting teachers and making them happy to come to work ultimately benefits the students, too. The researchers at the National Academy of Education concluded that high quality teachers need a higher social status, monetary incentives to stay in the field, good working conditions, and opportunities for meaningful professional development. Students, of course, need high quality teachers.
In a time when schools are slashing budgets and benefits, how can we keep morale up? We can support one another. According to the Metlife survey, new teachers are three times as likely to leave the profession if they feel like their colleagues don’t support them. We might be rushing to the copier before the first bell or setting up a lab, but making time for our fellow teachers is a change we can make today. We might not be able to solve our district’s budget crisis, but we can certainly improve the culture in our corner of the building.ut the teaching environment. Happy teachers are better teachers.

It was a day of performance to provide for a healthy interaction between teachers and students

Teachers’ Day, the 5th September:

Teachers’ Day in India:
In India teachers were respected since the inspection of teaching when the teachers were called ‘Guru’ and now this term have transformed into ‘Sir’ or ‘Madam’ but the role of teachers has remained the same. Teachers were continued a guiding torch in the society and will remain so in the future too. To-day, the 5thSeptember, the teachers’ day in India, the day is celebrated in different way to express the gratitude towards teachers in India. The observance of the day is a tribute to the dedication and devotion of the teachers all year long just to build up in education a child in India. The teachers are the backbone of the nation as they are acting as foundation for creating responsible citizens and good human beings.
[Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President and the second President of India but above all he was a dedicated teacher, who sacrificed his birth day for the nation as Teachers Day in India].The Origin of Teachers’ Day in India:
It was due the sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President and the second President of India, who was an ardent supporter of mass education and one of the greatest scholars and teachers of all times. Students, friends and teachers asked him for his permission to celebrate his birthday; he was agreed to do so on the condition that the day would be observed as Teachers’ day instead of his birthday, to honor the efforts of teachers across the country, the teachers who had made our life much more knowledgeable and serving as our beacons of light.
Henceforth, India has been celebrating Teachers’ Day on 5thSeptember, since 1962.
The Occasion of Celebration:
The day was observed by the Indians in the schools, in different centers of importance by the performance of lectures, dramas, dance performances, sports, songs and various other programs to entertain their teachers. The specialty of the day is that students of senior classes dress up like teachers and make a show of enjoyment. It was a day of performance to provide for a healthy interaction between teachers and students as well and exchange gifts. Apart from honoring all the teachers, the Indians remember the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher, a teacher par excellence, a great educationist, who contributed the best towards Indian education system, who believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country”.
