The birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, an eminent educationist and a great leader of India’s freedom struggle, on 11th November of every year as National Education Day without declaring any holiday on that day.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest at the National Education Day function being celebrated on November 11.

The Right to Education Bill seeks to make free and compulsory education a fundamental right. The wealth of the nation, according to Maulana Azad, was not in the country’s banks but in primary schools. The Maulana was also a great votary of the concept of Neighbourhood schools and the Common School System.
